Greg was born in Adelaide S.A. in 1947. He commenced a degree course in chemical engineering at the University of Adelaide in 1963, and two years later met Chris. He graduated in 1968, and that same year commenced work at the then new alumina refinery, Queensland Alumina Ltd (QAL), in Gladstone. That was also the start of a long distance romance. Chris and Greg married in 1969 and have three daughters who have subsequently given them five wonderful grandchildren. Jane is an accountant and partner with the Toowoomba firm of McConachie and Stedman, Lisa is a physiotherapist and Joanne is a senior constable with the Queensland Police Service.

In 1972 the Bailey’s moved to Perth where Greg took up a position with Western Mining Corp. at its Kwinana Nickel Refinery. Lisa and Joanne were born in the west. In 1977 the family returned to Gladstone and Greg returned to QAL, staying with that company until his retirement in 2003. During the early 80’s Greg led a team that developed the computer software required for QAL’s first computerised process control system. That led to a continuing involvement with computers, including five years in charge of QAL’s commercial computing systems. His last years at QAL were spent developing advanced process management and control systems.

Having grown up as a “Crow-eater”, Greg retains a passion for Australian Rules football, and became a Lions fan back in the days when they were the Brisbane Bears. He completed his playing days at age 36 with the Gladstone Mudcrabs. Both he and Chris are life members of that club. Greg also played tennis and squash, but concedes that Chris, who represented S.A. whilst in junior ranks of tennis competition, was by far the better at those sports. Interests today are a little more sedate and include walking and swimming, cooking, seeing Australia in their campervan, and enjoying the grandkids.

Greg was invited to join the Rotary Club of Boyne-Tannum in 1997, and was inducted into the club by PDG George Golding. He served as president in 1999-2000 before taking on a District role as RAWCS chairman for two years, followed by a year as the RAM Coordinator for RAWCS Northern Region (5 districts). In 2002 the Boyne-Tannum club awarded him a Paul Harris Fellow for services to the community – largely in recognition of a nine year involvement as secretary/treasurer of a Gladstone sports association.

Greg’s other community interest lies with the local aged care facility, Bindaree Lodge. He has served three years as chairman of the board of management (with Chris as secretary).

Terry was born in Atherton in 1955 and grew up on a dairy farm at Millaa Millaa. He captained the Malanda High School rugby league football team and played for Millaa Millaa as well as representing North Queensland. He did his trade in Refrigeration in Cairns before leaving to work in mustering camps and on cattle stations in the Richmond, Julia Creek and Kynuna areas

In 1976 Terry married Debbie Lohmann at Millaa Millaa and they managed, what was then the largest dairy farm on the Atherton Tablelands milking 270 cows. In late 1978 they moved to a cattle station at Moura before doing a season in the sugar cane industry at Wallaville outside Bundaberg. 1980 they moved to Croydon Station where helicopter mustering was pioneered.

1992 Terry & Debbie started Direct Pest Control and started franchising the business in 1994. It grew to be the second largest company in Queensland and the fifth largest in Australia. The parent company was sold the Campbell brothers in 2003.

They have two daughters, the eldest Deslee works for the Mobile Early Learning Center in Longreach and Cindy who works for the Defence Force at Russell in Canberra.

Terry was inducted into the Rotary Club of Rockhampton North in 1995 and was Past President in 2002 – 2003. He was named a Paul Harris fellow in 2003. He was District Treasurer 2003 – 2004 and the District Attendance Officer in 2006 - 2007. He is also currently a Director of the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service.

Both Debbie and I are looking forward to the office of District Governor in 2008 -2009.
